Currently on the iPod, some old school AC/DC, Green Day, and EP from a new band called Aberdeen City, the latest Coldplay, an excellent album from a band called Embrace and the new Our Lady Peace.

Great list, MD! I was JUST listening to "Girl" on my way in this morning!!

I'm currently listening to the new soundtrack to "Elizabethtown", the new David Gray (I am so in love with this guy I want to crawl through my iPod and...well, nevermind), some good stuff from Eels, Rachael Yamagata, and the soundtrack from the last episode of Six Feet Under (VERY excellent tunes!).

I highly recommend the new Franz Ferdinand and Clap Your Hand Say Yeah albums. For you retro fans, I've also been playing a lot of ELO (A New World Record and Discover, in particular) and early Cheap Trick, which I can't get enough of.

I've been listening to some pretty random things; I too listen to less music, but only because I've discovered the wonderfulness that is the book on CD--all my driving is now accompanied by that.

Anyway, on the iPod: Arcade Fire (Funeral), Over the Rhine, Sufjan Stevens, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals (not the newest one; just got that one), the Garden State soundtrack (still), and the old-school Macca CD's. (Haven't listened to the new Macca yet.)

In heavy rotation: A Band Of Bees, Kasabian, Kings of Leon, The Pixies, Phish, Ozomatli, Gipsy Kings, The White Stripes, Foreign Born.

Excellent call on the Killers... I have to say that you nailed it with your playlist. KUDOS!

I have been on a old school, mellow vibe lately -- patty griffin, 10,000 Maniacs (early stuff, Hope Chest, Blind Man's Zoo), Wilco, belle and sebastian, rufus wainwright, The Sundays. With a little pop for good measure -- XTC, Cake, Mysteries of Life, Travis, Charlatans UK, Matthew Sweet, Luna, Psychedelic Furs, Judybats...

I won't lie and admit that there is a fair amount of 60s and 70s "hippie shit" on there as well.

I am all over the place.

With three children I'm not only listening to far less music than I used to, I'm still saving up for the bloody ipod. But at work I've been playing the Devil's Rejects soundtrack a lot and have discovered a great singer called Terry Reid. I used to be a total expert on obscure, neglected artists but Terry never got on my radar (probably because he didn't die young like Gram Parsons). It's great early 70's American country rock which I have a soft spot for although understandably it almost put my wife off me when we first met.

I don't have an iPod. I used to have a 20 GB Rio Riot with a sticker on the back that said "fuck your iPod" but as the iPods kept getting smaller I felt like I was carrying around a gigantic boombox that only I could listen to, like lame skinny white Radio Raheem. So I tossed it. Now I just hum Loudon Wainwright songs to myself on the bus, goddamnit.

hmmm.... Currently listening to:

Sesame Street Platinum: All Time Favorites (Blister Pack) Sesame Street Platinum: All Time Favorites (Blister Pack)

Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics

Wiggles - Yummy Yummy

Veggie Tales: Junior's Playtime Songs

Great playlist, MD. I'm leaning much more toward hip hop these days, but have been spending a lot of time in 'shuffle' mode. And I still have only half of my cds loaded onto iTunes--that's a project that's gonna take a while.

In heavy rotation:
"Ch-Check It Out" Beastie Boys
"Dear Mama" Tupac Shakur
"Life on Mars" Anggun
"Crazy in Love" Beyonce
"Where is the Love?" Black-Eyed Peas

[found you via bitemycookie. great stuff!!]
i must preface this list by saying i adore my ipod. when my first one broke on an airport security check and the screen looked like this
x x

i cried and immediately bought a new one. when i took it running once and it froze up, i stopped breathing and call a friend that is an I.T. nerd.

can't listen to enough:
Consequence - the notwist

for sleepyheads only - flunk

the brazilian girls

the arcade fire

old favorites:
kings of convenience, radiohead, coldplay, bjork, beth orton, black keyes, neil diamond

consequence by the notwist is a great fucking song, crazyvirgo. right on.

Well, it seems Dame Shirley Bassey was not to keen on Kanye using her Bond vocal on his track...

Well, my two year old's playlist has a bunch of Dan Zanes, They Might Be Giants and her current favorite, House of Pain's, Jump Around.

My play list has Wilco(every album), The Band-Greatest Hits, Echo & The Bunnyman, Johnny Cash, Coldplay, Badly Drawn Boy, Radiohead (Hail to the Thief and Pablo Honey) and Jack Johnson

I'm big on W's right now. It's Weezer first, Wilco second, and White Stripes Third.

Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Dandy Warhols, and Von Bondies are a few cool bands I just recently discovered. BTW--that's awesome that you love The Killers. They're my favorite new band of the past year.

Dude, great playlist! It's cool, eclectic, and (like BIYF said) fashionable without being trendy. Just like your blog! Rock on!

Couldn't agree with you more. "Mr. Brightsides" may be the bigger Killers hit but "All These Things I've Done" is one of the best written songs I've ever heard. You totally nailed it. The song reeks of confidence. If these guys are THiS good now? I can't wait to see what the future brings.

When I grow up, I want to live in NYC, run into Beck at Dj shows, see Mos Def on Broadway, hang out with Nada Surf and be MetroDad. Damn, the suburbs suck!

Check out Fall Out Boy, DHT, Gorillaz and Pretty Ricky. All pretty new and worth a listen.

I don't think I can really break it down into songs; I tend to think in albums, so here goes:

Green Day, American Idiot
Easily my favorite album of the year.

Franz Ferdinand, Franz Ferdinand
A close second.

The Killers, Hot Fuss
Just last week a friend and I were talking about how cool "All These Things..." is.

Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams
Even my kids love this one. Almost perfect.

U2, How to Dismantle...
I know. Very unhip, very uncool. Maybe, but they're still the biggest band in the world.

A few older discs:
Moby, Play
I only bought this recently, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Streetcore
A friend described this as the Clash grown up, and that's about right.

Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation...
Old, but good.

But if I have to pick a song, there's one that I'm grooving to lately:
The Postal Service, Such Great Heights

Mr. Big Dubya

I'm always in a "retro" groove - The Smiths, English Beat, The Jam and The Silencers (the Scottish band, the the Cali punk band) - but I've also been listening to Modest Mouse, The Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, The Bravery, and of course The Killers. I also like to throw in a little Tenacious D for shits and giggles.

Mr. Big Dubya

That's supposed to be "not" the Cali punk band - PIMF

My 80's playlist gets played more than most... Good for the kids, lots of poppy happy music.

But as I type this, "Cold As Steel" by the Churchills is playing. Oops, it just switched over to "Let's Have A Baby" by Candy Butchers. If you've never heard Candy Butchers, I'd highly recommend their last CD, Hang On Mike, released in 2004.

Shotgundaddy, Iron & Wine's cover of "Such Great Heights" also sounds great. I play them back to back, on repeat. Drives the wife crazy.

am listening at work. I have most of this stuff, but not the Mos Def and Kanye.
I have to make a few business calls but I can't bring myself to turn it down.
Your descriprion of Green Day is DEAD ON. Saw them two weeks ago and am still buzzing.
you're so cool. you're so cool. you're so cool.

Came to this post late but am always looking for cool new stuff to listen to on the way to work. These are the songs that currently make me a happy, well-adjusted and less likely to kick fellow subway riders in a pre-coffee stuper commuter:
David Bowie's "Greatest Hits" album
Green Day "American Idiot and "Holiday"
Prince "Purple Rain" (the whole album)
The Trews "So She's Leaving"
The Dandy Warhols (anything I can download)
My Chemical Romance "Helena"
The Killers "Somebody Told Me"
and a variety of good stuff from The Stars, Scissor Sisters and Megan Slankard.

Mrs. Flinger

I'm a geek, but not a rich geek so I have my iTunes post my last ten songs to my website.

Right now? I'm ashamed but the last thing I listened to was some baby music for LB (11.5 months old as well, I have to go back and see when your baby was born). I listen to music now but it's always some cheesy kid stuff during the day. *sigh*

Dude, I'm digging that Killers song. Nice rec!

I just got my Nano about a week ago, and haven't had much time to load anything on it (14 month old daughter eats up time). So far just McCartney and Beatles. I'm likin' the new McCartney album, tho'

Hi, thank you for sharing this great info. Was just browsing through the net in my office and happened upon your blog. It is really very well written and quit comprehensive in explaining with a very simple language.

sheetwowsheetApril 20, 2011 Whatever you do, don’t get an iPhone! Apple are going through a bad tehacicnl patch at the moment and we wait to see how they are going to resolve things. The iPhone, the iPad and the iPod Nano are all affected by things like incorrect signal strength displays, inability to auto date change, poor signal strength, overheating and poor visibility problems.Other phones have better technology than the iPhone and it will be a while before the iPhone catches up. Android phones are quicker, have good signal receivers, can do genuine multitasking (something the iPhones cannot do) and unlike iPhones, they are not restricted by what apps they can have.Android phones are the future now.
